Lasker On a Roll In Top Gun Sprint Series
By Jason Loughren

In the Top Gun Sprints main event, twenty-six cars started the event. It would be a race of attrition and caution flags as only ten cars were running at the end of the twenty five-lap feature event. A major incident in turn 1 involving twelve cars occurred on the third attempt to start the race. As a result there was a 15-minute red flag to clear the track. Five cars were sent to the pits as a result including A.J. Maddox who dominated his heat race.

Once a clean start occurred the racing was fast and furious on the track as Gene Lasker jumped out to the early lead. Lasker lead many of the early laps holding off the challenge of Tim George. Lap traffic became a factor late in the race. Jeff Van Dusen hung around in the top 5 all night long after being involved in a early caution. Van Dusen passed Lasker in turn 4 coming to the white flag. Van Dusen was able to hold off Lasker on the final lap and take the dramatic win. He went to the scales before Victory Lane and that part was good, but the tech man threw out the win due to illegal heads.

A lengthy teardown process ended at 2:30 a.m. with Lasker declared the winner. Tim George, who had crossed the line third, saw his finish tossed out with an illegal crankshaft. The official finish was Lasker, Mark Ruel Jr., Mike Schroeder, D.J. Peeples and Top Gun point leader Ryan Partin. Maddox, Lasker and Troy Knowles won the heat races.
